Royal Oak Farm Orchard is happy to make available a series of workshops on Home Orchard Management. Our professional certified staff is available to conduct workshops for on aspects of orchard management for your group or organization which are designed to enhance the capacity of orchard and backyard fruit tree growers in most aspects of fruit cultivation. Our workshops will include indoor presentations on methodology, techniques and tools.  Available following the workshops will be videos, books and other resources on home orchard establishment, including pruning, IPM, and nutrient management.  Each workshop will last approximately 1.5 hours.

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP









Everyone likes to eat apples, including over 70 insects and a long list of fungi and bacteria. To produce good looking tasty apples we have to control those pests. This IPM workshop will cover what Integrated Pest Management is and how to use it in managing pests and disease in your fruit trees or orchard.
Topics covered in the workshop include:

What IPM is and is not
What organic is and is not
Identifying the pests: The good, the bad and the ugly
Insect and disease control using Integrated Pest Management
Organic vs. conventional management techniques

The workshop will include an indoor presentation on techniques followed by discussion where participants will be given the opportunity to ask specific questions about what they have learned. The workshop will be taught by Dennis Norton, an IPM Specialist and Pomologist at Royal Oak Farm Orchard.

IPM WORKSHOP INFORMATION
This workshop is available January through March of each year.  We suggest this workshop be offered in January, February, or March, prior to the Pest Management season beginning in early April.  Cost for our staff to conduct this workshop is $250.00.

FRUIT TREE PRUNING WORKSHOP





Whether you have a backyard orchard, a newly planted tree or an old neglected, out of control monster, you will get good results with the help of the tried-and-true pruning methods  learned in this workshop. Technuques covered are those taught by Gary Moulton from Washington State.  Topics covered in this workshop include:

Proper pruning cuts
Harmonal balance of the tree
Pruning for Training Systems – first planting to mature trees for Central Leader and Tall Spindle
How pruning effects tree growth
How summer pruning effects tree growth

FRUIT TREE PRUNING WORKSHOP INFORMATION
This workshop is available December through March of each year. We suggest this workshop be offered in December, January or February just before or during the pruning season. Cost for our staff to conduct this workshop is $250.00.
