Educational
Orchard School Tours are a favorite for School Groups...
Royal
Oak Farm Orchard is the perfect place for young school children
to enjoy the fresh air and experience the joy of being on the farm
orchard. Public School groups, Home School groups, Girl/Boy
Scout groups, Brownie Troops, Day Care groups and many other children's
groups have enjoyed our School Tours. Tours can be scheduled
any weekday beginning in August. Tours include...
Viewing of our new video production lasting approx. 7 minutes in
our teepee built in 2001.
Our video will explain to the children the pollination process
of our apple trees by our bees and how the bees pay us back in
return with the honey harvested in our "Honey House". They
will also learn about the trimming of the trees and the orchard
operation. We will also have a short talk about the
American Indians that inhabited the orchard area in the previous
centuries.
An
approx. 30 minute orchard tour on an antique tractor drawn wagon.
We provide an experienced tour guide, who will tell you about our
orchard and answer any questions you might have along the way. For
those with allergy concerns, hay is not used in the wagons on these
tours.
Your tour will include stopping in the orchard for
the children to pick 5 apples (we provide the bags) and experience
the fun of seeing how the apples grow on the trees.
At the conclusion of the school tour each student
will receive an apple cider drink and homemade cider donut in our
school group picnic area.
Following the tour, you can spend as much time as
you like visiting our petting zoo and playing in the play area.
You may also visit our active bee hive inside our Pavilion
and see some of our bees at work through the special viewing glass! The
feed machines in the Petting Zoo require quarters and the "Royal
Oak Express" train or "Royal Oak Carousel" require $2.50 tokens
to board if your tour has time.
School tours can be arranged by calling us at (815) 648-4141, Ext. 4.
Tours must have reservations and groups of less than 15 may be combined
with others.
